Jack Pulliam

I learned to sail as a 10-year-old in a Snark sailboat on Chesapeake Bay. Soon after that my father was stationed at NAS Whidbey. In the mid 60s he retired from the Navy and he and my mother bought and ran The Hobby Shop in Oak Harbor. I was the kid in the candy store. I was already building models and flying control line planes. My big boat sailing experience is mostly of the cruising variety. For many years I cruised Lake Washington and Puget Sound in a Westsail 32. Longest voyage was in 1980 when my best friend Glen and I took a San Juan 24 through the inside passage to Pt Baker on the north end of Prince of Wales Island, a 23 day journey. I've crewed on several different boats in Lake Union's "Duck Dodge" series and chartered a Bavaria 30 in the BVI. I moved to Oak Harbor in July 2015 as my retirement home. This winter on a hike at Rosario Head I happen to see the IOMs racing and was enchanted.  As the newest member of the DPMYC I am honored by the sailor of the month award. What a fun hobby and a rewarding past time!Type your paragraph here.
